RECRUITING: Gorman’s Bobak commits to UNR

Bishop Gorman senior defensive lineman Ian Bobak gave an oral commitment to UNR on Thursday at the conclusion of his official recruiting visit.

Bobak chose the Wolf Pack over scholarship offers from Fresno State and UNLV. He made an official visit to Fresno State last weekend, and received recent interest from Arizona State and UCLA.

"What went into it was it was the best possible fit for me," Bobak said of picking UNR. "The whole school, Nevada felt right."

The 6-foot-3-inch, 241-pound Bobak said UNR could play him at either defensive end or tackle. He said his versatility helped in improving his recruiting interest.

"I think it's definitely a plus for me," he said. "I can play defensive end, defensive tackle or linebacker. It only improved my stock."

Bobak had 38 tackles, five sacks and one interception this season, helping the Gaels roll to a 15-0 record and their second Class 4A state title in three years.

Bobak said his favorite part of his visit was the interaction with UNR's defensive linemen.

"The (defensive) line, they're going to be my teammates," he said. "They made me feel comfortable."

UNR is 8-4 heading into the Hawaii Bowl against Southern Methodist on Dec. 24.

"They showed the nation they can play," Bobak said of UNR, which went 7-1 in the Western Athletic Conference. "They definitely made me feel part of the team."

Bobak is the fourth Gorman senior to commit to a Football Bowl Subdivision program so far, joining tight end Xavier Grimble (Southern California), defensive end Alex Turner (Stanford) and offensive lineman Geoffrey Gibson (California).

He'll be joined at UNR by Palo Verde senior defensive end Daniel Godkin, who picked the Wolf Pack in November.
