RECRUITING: Moapa Valley’s Hubert commits to Utah
October 1, 2015 - 10:17 pm
Moapa Valley senior R.J. Hubert made an oral commitment to Utah on Thursday, Pirates football coach Brent Lewis said.
Hubert's commitment is nonbinding, and the first day he can sign a letter of intent is Feb. 3. Utah's coaches cannot comment until that time.
Hubert, a 5-foot-11½-inch, 180-pound wide receiver/defensive back, was offered a scholarship by Utah on Thursday. Listed as a three-star recruit by Rivals.com and Scout.com, he also had scholarship offers from Army, Northern Arizona, UNR and Weber State and was drawing interest from Brigham Young, San Diego State and UNLV, among others.
"I can honestly say, without blinking an eye, that I believe R.J. is the best receiver in Southern Nevada," Lewis said last month.
Hubert leads Southern Nevada with 16 touchdowns through five games for Moapa Valley (3-2, 1-1 Division I-A Sunrise League). He has rushed for a team-leading 363 yards and seven touchdowns while averaging nearly 13 yards per carry and has 11 receptions for 225 yards and four scores.
Hubert also has scored on four kickoff returns along with a fumble return.
Hubert was the I-A state Most Valuable Player as a junior and was a first-team all-state pick at wide receiver after finishing with 49 receptions for 964 yards and a team-best 14 touchdowns.
