RECRUITING: Palo Verde standout to officially visit Rebels

Jerrol Williams made plenty of plays at outside linebacker for the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 1990s.

Similar talents appear to have been passed down to his son.

Palo Verde senior outside linebacker Jerrol Garcia-Williams said he plans to make his official recruiting visit to UNLV this weekend. He also has a scholarship offer from Southern Utah, while San Diego State and Hawaii are increasing their interest.

“Hopefully it’s like a family atmosphere. They can turn it around,” Garcia-Williams said of UNLV.

Garcia-Williams was a first-team all-state selection and the Northwest League Defensive Most Valuable Player after he led Palo Verde (11-1) to the Sunset Region title game.

The 6-foot-3-inch, 205-pounder has a wide skill set and logged 84 tackles, seven sacks and two interceptions.

“I’m just real aggressive, and I know the game well,” Garcia-Williams said. “My dad gives me a lot of help.”

Garcia-Williams also was a reliable tight end for the Panthers, rarely coming off the field.

“He’s what (colleges) are looking for,” Palo Verde coach Darwin Rost said. “He’s got the whole package and had a great senior year, made a lot of big plays and played in big games.”
