RECRUITING: Poutasi attracts attention

Nimble 325-pound offensive linemen who can bench press more than their own weight don’t grow on trees.
That’s why 6-foot-5-inch Desert Pines senior tackle Cedrick Poutasi has a popular phone number among college football coaches.
Oregon offered Poutasi a scholarship Tuesday, and he’s also deciding between Utah, Washington and Oklahoma State as the Feb. 1 signing day approaches.
Poutasi said he will announce his college commitment Dec. 30 at the Offense-Defense High School All-American Bowl at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. He will play offensive tackle for the West team.
“I just want to go to a program where I’m welcomed, and has the environment,” said Poutasi, who added he is open to playing tackle or guard in college.
Poutasi was a first-team All-Northeast League pick, helping the Jaguars (4-6) reach the Sunrise Region playoffs.
Poutasi said “quickness and having that mentality to be physical” are his strengths.
STANLEY TO ANNOUNCE — Bishop Gorman senior offensive tackle Ronnie Stanley is set to announce his college commitment at 2 p.m. Thursday, Gorman athletic director Grant Rice said.
Stanley made an official recruiting visit to Notre Dame last weekend, and also has offers from Arkansas and Nebraska, among others.
Stanley will play in the inaugural Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl on Jan. 3 in Phoenix. Gorman coach Tony Sanchez will serve as the West’s offensive line coach.
Also, the Las Vegas High School Senior Bowl, featuring mostly under-the-radar prospects, is set for 1 p.m. Saturday at Sam Boyd Stadium.
ARBOR VIEW UPDATE — Junior offensive tackle Elijah George already received an offer from UNLV, Aggies coach Dan Barnson said.
Nebraska coaches have visited campus twice in the past two weeks to look at the 6-6, 240-pound George.
“For Elijah, I think (recruitment) is going to get pretty big this spring,” Barnson said. “We tell him all the time, 'You’re never going to leave the field for us,’ and he’s excited about it.”
Also, Barnson said Arbor View senior running back/cornerback Roderick Eason has an offer from Colorado.
RECENT COMMITMENTS — Cimarron-Memorial senior girls soccer player Lindsey Millen committed to Portland State, and Spring Valley senior softball player Katie Campo picked Black Hills State (S.D.).
