RECRUITING: Wildcats’ Littlefield commits to Air Force, Miller to Weber State
Las Vegas High senior football players Jacob Littlefield and Elias Miller each made oral commitments, Wildcats coach James Thurman said Monday.
Littlefield, the Northeast League Most Valuable Player on defense, pledged to Air Force, while Miller, a running back, selected Weber State. Oral commitments are nonbinding, and the first day Littlefield and Miller can sign a letter of intent is Feb. 4. College coaches cannot comment until that time.
Littlefield, a 6-foot, 205-pound linebacker, led the Wildcats in tackles the past three seasons. He finished with 83 tackles and one sack in 10 games as a senior, helping Las Vegas (6-5) finish in a three-way tie atop the Northeast League standings.
“It’s exciting. I’ve been pushing him all year, telling people that someone is going to take a chance on him and they’re going to get a hell of a football player,” Thurman said. “He’s a real bright kid, and he knows the educational aspect of it is second to none.”
Littlefield filled in at running back for the Wildcats in their Division I Sunrise Region quarterfinal victory against Foothill and ran for 181 yards and two touchdowns. Littlefield suffered a broken collarbone in the third quarter and finished the game but missed Las Vegas’ loss to Basic in the region semifinals.
“He’s a tough nut, I’ll tell you what,” Thurman said. “He’s old school. He’s one of those kids you have to drag off the field.”
Miller, a one-time Brigham Young commit, is a two-star recruit by Rivals.com. The 6-1, 190-pounder rushed for 296 yards and two scores and caught 15 passes for 153 yards and four TDs in only six games.
Miller was suspended for one game after being ejected against Centennial on Sept. 27, then left the team and missed the Wildcats’ final four games.
“He needs a chance to go play and show what he can do, so this will be good for him, and it’s a good fit for (Weber State),” Thurman said. “He’s obviously fast and he’s got good hands. He’s a very athletic young man.”
