ROUNDUP: Emerging LeBoeuf leads Mountain View past Lincoln County

Cortland LeBoeuf was a productive running back in Mountain View’s three-pronged rushing attack last year.

But he may be emerging this season as the best running back in the Class 2A Southern League.

LeBoeuf carried 15 times for 311 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Saints to a 36-16 rout of visiting Lincoln County in a league opener Saturday.

“LeBoeuf was really impressive,” Lincoln County coach Rich Ottley said. “He was a good running back last year, but if he’s not the fastest kid in the league, I don’t know who is. He made a lot of people miss, and he’s just a good athlete.”

LeBoeuf, a senior, scored on runs of 25, 37 and 77 yards. He called his effort Saturday his best game yet.

“This is my best, but our (offensive) line, it’s probably their best game, too,” he said. “They blocked for me, and holes were wide open.”

LeBoeuf, who averaged 10 yards per carry last season, was coming off a 146-yard effort in a 46-0 win over Foothills Christian (Calif.) on Sept. 12.

“He’s been playing since he was 8 years old, and he’s always had the blessing of speed,” said Mountain View coach Ray LeBoeuf, Cortland’s father. “He has increased vision as he gets older, and some games he really has that eye to carry the ball.”

Mountain View (3-1, 1-0) held an opponent scoreless in the second half for the second straight week.

Lincoln County (1-2, 0-1) pulled within 24-16 on Eric Rippetoe’s 34-yard touchdown pass to Travis Sonnenberg 16.3 seconds before halftime, but turned the ball over twice in the second half.

“The defense, coming out at halftime we just stayed loose,” Mountain View linebacker Karl Benjamin said. “We really just relaxed and played hard.”

Benjamin returned a fumble 68 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter, and had one of the Saints’ two interceptions.

“He really set the tone with those plays, and then our defense was able to shut them out in the second half,” Ray LeBoeuf said of Benjamin. “I was real proud of that.”

Mountain View quarterback T.J. Engel carried 15 times for 57 yards and one TD.

Rippetoe completed 13 of 27 passes for 182 yards and one TD with two interceptions.

Mountain View visits defending 2A state champion The Meadows (2-1, 1-0) on Friday.

“That might be one of our biggest games of the year,” Benjamin said. “They’ve got a pretty good passing game and they won state last year, so we’ll be looking to go out there and play well.”

Lincoln County will try to rebound at home against White Pine (0-3, 0-1) on Friday.

“The league this year is extremely tough,” Ottley said. “It’s going to be an accomplishment to make the playoffs this year, where it used to be kind of a given.”

Agassi Prep 44, West Wendover 12 — At West Wendover, DeVonn Porter scored four touchdowns to lead the Stars (2-0, 1-0 2A Southern) over the Wolverines (0-3, 0-1).

Porter rushed for 217 yards and three touchdowns on 21 carries.

Porter also returned an intercetion for a touchdown and had a two-point conversion.

Agassi Prep racked up 487 yards of offense.

Sandy Valley 22, Lund 21 — At Lund, the Sidewinders (1-2) edged the Mustangs (0-3) for their first win since 2006.
