Roundup: Marcus Turner, Dillon Horn lead Needles to semifinal win

Marcus Turner rushed for 119 yards and three touchdowns, and Dillon Horn scored two touchdowns and intercepted two passes to help Needles to a 48-27 home win over Battle Mountain in the Class 2A state semifinals on Saturday.

Battle Mountain defeated Needles 36-30 in overtime in the 2017 state semifinals.

“It felt good. The kids played great,” Mustangs coach Matt Fromelt said. “They worked hard. In the back of their head’s, they could remember last year’s game. They came out and accomplished their goal.”

Tyler White rushed five times for 115 yards for Needles (9-2), and Samaj Howell rushed for an additional score.

The Mustangs play Pershing County (10-1) for the title at 1 p.m. on Nov. 17 at Bishop Gorman.

Battle Mountain finished 9-3.

Pershing County 7, Lincoln County 6 — At Lovelock, the Lynx had six sacks and two fumble recoveries, but they fell to the Mustangs in the Class 2A state semifinals.

Down 7-0, Noah Smith scored on a 1-run with 4:49 to play in the fourth, but a failed 2-point pass attempt kept the Lynx (8-2) down by a point.

Lincon County’s Dean Ottley had 10 tackles, three sacks and two forced fumbles, and Kobe Walker and Hagen Boyce each had a sack and a fumble recovery. Boyce and McKinley O’Connor each had 11 tackles for the Lynx, and Alex Vincent and Matthew Hafen each had 10 tackles. Teammate Kamdon Lewis had a sack.

Pershing County (10-1) scored its touchdown on a 63-yard run with 11:07 to play in the third quarter. The Mustangs also had an interception.

Class 1A

Spring Mountain 41, Virginia City 24 — At Hawthorne, the Golden Eagles jumped out to a 34-12 halftime lead and held off the Muckers to move into the Class 1A state title game.

Spring Mountain (9-1) faces Tonopah (11-0) for in the championship game at 1 p.m. on Nov. 17 at Beatty.
