Silverado’s Wadsworth commits to Hawaii for football

Silverado football player Michael Wadsworth gave an oral commitment Wednesday to Hawaii, the senior cornerback said Friday.

Wadsworth made the decision without making an official visit to Hawaii, which he plans to make on either Nov. 22 or Nov. 29. The only visit he made was to Arizona.

A key in the comfort factor, Wadsworth said, was that Hawaii’s director of football player personnel, Tony Tuioti, was Silverado’s defensive coordinator in 2007.

The 6-foot-1-inch, 197-pound Wadsworth will be able to play alongside Silverado linebacker T.J. Alofipo, who committed to Hawaii before the season began.

“I like having Coach Tuioti over there,” Wadsworth said. “I like the fact that my teammate’s going over there as well. I like the way their defense is run. I’m already kind of used to it.”

Silverado coach Andy Ostolaza said Wadsworth is the “best overall player” in his program despite having at least three Football Bowl Subdivision recruits.

“He’ll do pretty well,” Ostolaza said. “He’s probably going to project as a safety at the next level. He’s easy to teach and takes direction well.”

The Skyhawks wrapped up a disappointing 4-5 season with a 28-21 loss at Del Sol on Thursday night.

Silverado defensive end Keenan Graham has taken official visits to Nebraska, Wisconsin and Colorado, Ostolaza said, as well as unofficial trips to Southern California and Arizona. He still is finalizing his last two official visits.
