Sullivan, Cheyenne rout Arbor View

On paper, it appeared Friday’s Northwest Division matchup was going to feature a pair of 1,100-yard rushers in Cheyenne’s Marcus Sullivan and Arbor View’s Taylor Wooten.
Sullivan brought his “A” game, but the Desert Shields made sure Wooten did not.
Sullivan rushed for 134 yards and three touchdowns and caught a pass for another score as the No. 4 Desert Shields ripped the Aggies, 57-0.
Cheyenne (8-1, 5-1 Northwest League) scored on eight of its nine possessions as the Desert Shields gained 559 total yards.
“I would never imagined it was going to be this easy,” Cheyenne coach Charles Anthony said. “On film, (Arbor View) looked very tough, especially in the game against Palo Verde.
“However, I’m glad at the way we executed and played with plenty of emotion.”
The Desert Shields jumped on the Aggies (5-4, 2-4) from the start, as Cheyenne had scoring drives of 65, 63 and 55 yards on its way to a 24-0 lead. Cheyenne outgained Arbor View 181-13 in that opening period and never looked back.
“Once we gained the momentum, we never gave it up,” Anthony said. 'I know playing on homecoming adds emotion, but the kids played extremely well tonight.”
Sullivan had scoring runs of 2, 1 and 39 yards. He also caught a 29-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Kaeo Helekahi. Sullivan also directed a pair of scoring drives in the second half in Cheyenne’s spread-offense look, including throwing a 42-yard pass to Khyriece Campbell.
Andrew Calhoun and Terrence Brison combined for three short touchdown runs for Cheyenne, and Jordan Butler caught a 70-yard scoring strike from Chris Spencer.
Cheyenne was just as impressive on defense, holding Wooten in check. Wooten, with 13 touchdowns coming into the game, was held to 32 yards on 17 carries. The Aggies had just 113 yards of offense and never got past the Desert Shields’ 35-yard line.
