After back-to-to back losses, Meadows coach Jack Concannon wanted to see one thing from his Mustangs on Saturday afternoon: effort.
He got it.
The Mustangs’ effort included a dominating performance in all three phases of the game as they held Mountain View to negative total yardage in a 58-0 road victory.
“Our main focus this week was our effort habit,” Concannon said. “It didn’t matter who we who we were playing or where we were playing, we needed to work on our habit. And we got better.”
Peter Hoskins accounted for three touchdowns, rushing for two scores as part of a 30-point first quarter, then scoring on a 61-yard punt return in the third quarter.
Hoskins’ 15-yard TD run in the first quarter was followed quickly by a 45-yard touchdown pass from Michael Corrigan to Davidson Rufty. Just a few plays later, the Mustangs were in the end zone again, after recovering a Saints rumble at the 5-yard line. Corrigan hit Matthew Aaron for a 3-yard TD with 2:20 to go in the first quarter.
Hoskins added a 5-yard TD run after the next defensive stand, which was set up by his own punt return down to the Saints 7.
Julian Lara had a pair of TD runs, and Corrigan added a 7-yard touchdown pass to Trey Covell for The Meadows (2-3, 1-0 2A Southern League).
Mountain View fell to 0-3,0-1.
