Thomas, Eagles move into state final

Spring Mountain's Marcus Thomas ran for two touchdowns and threw a pair of scoring passes to Dwayne James as the Golden Eagles (9-1) overcame a pair of first-quarter deficits to earn a berth in the state final by downing host Virginia City (9-2) 38-13 on Saturday.

Thomas ran for TDs of 45 and 6 yards in the first quarter. His second TD run put the Golden Eagles ahead for good at 16-13 with 26 seconds left in the first quarter.

Bruce Travis-Collins added a 13-yard scoring run early in the third quarter before Thomas found James on passes of 15 and 10 yards to close the scoring.

Josh Banasiak led the Spring Mountain defense with 3½ sacks.

Spring Mountain will face Pahranagat Valley (10-0) in the final at noon on Nov. 17 at Bishop Gorman.
