September 19, 2015 - 12:10 am
Virgin Valley's Cody Jones rushed for 79 yards and a touchdown, and Hogan Fowles threw for another score Friday to help the Bulldogs to a 14-0 road win over Rancho.
In a game with more than its share of penalties, turnovers, and missed opportunites, the only constant was the Virgin Valley rushing attack. The Bulldogs (3-1) rushed for 274 yards and held Rancho to 42 rushing yards.
Virgin Valley grabbed a lead on a 26-yard pass from Fowles to Josh Bishop on a fourth-down play in the second quarter and missed another opportunity to score in the quarter when it fumbled just before reaching the goal line.
Rancho (2-2) nearly tied the game on a heave to receiver Jonathan Davis with three seconds left in the half, but Davis was tackled on Bulldogs' 1-yard line. Davis led the Rams with 50 receiving yards.
Virgin Valley's rushing attack took control of the game in the second half with timely bootlegs by Fowles, who led the Bulldogs with 84 yards, and the running of Jones and Kai Mitchell, who finished with 66 yards. Jones capped off the scoring with an 8-yard touchdown run midway thru the fourth quarter.
