2A GOLF: Lake Mead captures Southern Region tourney

Lake Mead’s boys golf team had four of the top eight finishers Tuesday and won the Class 2A Southern Region title at Reflection Bay Golf Club.

Nick Herrero carded an 8-over-par 80 for the Eagles, who had a team score of 448. The Meadows took second at 477, and White Pine was third at 512. All three teams advance to the state tournament, which begins Monday at Eagle Valley in Carson City.

Jake Butcher added an 85 for Lake Mead.

White Pine’s Collin Young was the individual champion with a 76.

The Meadows’ Kevin Inthachack shot 85, and teammate Veronica Joels added an 87.

The top three teams and top five individuals not on a qualifying team advance to the state meet. Individuals who qualified for state were: West Wendover’s Braden Price and Dylan Morley, Tonopah’s Tanner Otteson and Needles’ Joseph Garcia and Eric Upshaw.

Bishop Gorman won by 27 strokes over second-place Shadow Ridge with a two-day score of 593 at Red Hawk Golf and Resort in Sparks.
