2A STATE: Mountain View’s Flowers one shot back after first round

Mountain View’s Keith Flowers shot even-par 72 at Rivers Edge in Needles, Calif., on Monday and is within one stroke of the lead at the midway mark of the Class 2A state boys golf tournament.

Incline’s Jordan Wright shot 71 to hold the opening-round lead. Lake Mead’s Quayd Brooks and White Pine’s Nick Marich each shot 73.

White Pine’s Ty Pickell is fifth after shooting a 74, one stroke better than both Needles’ Darron Wilson and Lake Mead’s Victor Banos.

Whittell leads the team competition with a score of 400. Needles and White Pine are tied for second at 412 with The Meadows one stroke back in fourth. Incline shot 418, followed by North Tahoe at 448.

The final round is Tuesday, also at Rivers Edge.
