2A STATE: Whittell leads by one at halfway point

Whittell’s boys golf team took a one-stroke lead after Monday's opening round of the Class 2A state meet at Genoa Lakes Golf Course in Genoa.
Whittell shot 422, with Sage Ridge second at 423.
North Tahoe is third at 430, and Lake Mead fourth at 460.
Class 2A Southern League champion Needles is sixth in the team standings at 477.
Mineral County’s Foster Kenton shot 3-over-par 75 to take the individual lead.
Whittell’s Trevor Fairbank and Incline’s Jordan Wright are tied for second at 76.
Lake Mead’s Quayd Brooks is the top Southern Nevada golfer, sitting in 13th place after opening with an 82.
Lake Mead’s Victor Banos is a shot back at 83, and teammate L.J. Yamzon carded 84.
Tuesday’s final round is scheduled for noon at Edgewood-Tahoe in Stateline.
