3A LEAGUE: Baeza leads Virgin Valley to state berth
May 11, 2011 - 11:28 am
Ryan Baeza carded a 6-over-par 78 at Coyote Springs on Wednesday to win the individual title and lead Virgin Valley to the team title at the Class 3A Southern League boys golf meet.
Virgin Valley shot 443 and will be the South’s lone team representative in next week’s state meet in Reno.
Boulder City was second at 474, followed by Moapa Valley at 515.
Kaden Atkin added an 82, and Tyler Hughes shot 89 for the Bulldogs.
“We didn’t shoot as well as we have (this season), by any means,” Virgin Valley coach Kirk Hafen said. “I guess a little nerves set in when it comes time for (the league meet).”
Moapa Valley’s Cody Kelly shot 81 to finish second. Marcus Delgadillo carded an 88 to earn a state berth, as the top five individuals from the two remaining teams also qualified for state.
Boulder City’s Nick Hoffman (88), Tyler Barton (91) and Kyle Effertz (94) also qualified for state.
