Blake Schaper guides Eagles to lead in Class 3A region golf

Boulder City freshman Blake Schaper shot even-par 72 Monday at Boulder City Municpal to take the lead at the midway point of the Class 3A Southern Region tournament.

Schaper birdied Nos. 15 and 16 to rally from a slow start and grab a two-shot lead over Western’s Jared Smith heading into Tuesday’s final round at Boulder Creek.

Mojave’s Marcus Mullins shot 75 and is in third place, two strokes ahead of Boulder City’s Jackson Wright.

Boulder City placed four golfers in the top six and has a team score of 310 after the first round. Pahrump Valley was the only other school to qualify its team for the tournament and shot 346.

Both teams and all six individuals in the tournament will advance to next week’s state tournament at Mountain Falls.
