Coronado’s Brett Sodetz second after two rounds of Champions Invitational

Coronado’s Brett Sodetz shot a 3-under-par 69 in his second round Friday to move into second place at the Champions Invitational boys golf tournament at the Golf Club at Terra Lago in Indio, California.

Sodetz shot a 78 in his morning round Friday and is at 3-over 147 entering Saturday’s final round.

Sodetz and Robert Keilch of Mater Dei (Calif.) shared low round honors at 69 and were the only golfers in the 248-player field to break par in either round Friday. Keilch is the 36-hole leader at 145.

Bishop Gorman’s Mitchell Abbott (78-74) is tied for fifth at 152.

Arbor View’s Hazen Newman bounced back from an opening-round 82 to shoot 72 in his second round and is tied for ninth at 154. The Aggies’ Kameron Kelsey is tied for 12th at 157.

Palm Desert (Calif.) leads the team competition with a total of 619. Servite (Calif.) is second at 622, and Coronado is third at 635.

Arbor View is eighth at 653, and Bishop Gorman is in a three-way tie for 15th at 677.
