DIVISION III GOLF: Highlanders capture state crown

Incline’s Mitchell Cornell shot 1-under-par 71 on Tuesday at the Championship Course at Incline Village to capture the Division III state golf individual title and lead the Highlanders to the team title.

Mitchell finished the two-day tournament at 144, eight shots ahead of second-place Chris Young of White Pine.

Incline’s Bryan Golombik, who was tied with Cornell at 73 after the opening round, was third at 155 to help the Highlanders win the title witha a team score of 883. White Pine was second at 904, and Needles was third at 913.

Zarek Phillips of Needles and Lake Mead’s Nick Herrero were the top Southern Nevada golfers, finishing tied for eighth at 171.
