DIVISION III GOLF: Highlanders take opening-round lead

Mitchell Cornell and Bryan Golombik each shot 1-over-par 73 Monday to help Incline to the opening-round lead in the Division III state golf tournament at The Championship Course at Incline Village.

The Highlanders shot 430 as a team to take a 25-stroke lead over second-place Needles (455). White Pine is third at 456, followed by Battle Mountain (470), Lake Mead (483) and Whittell (501).

Lake Mead’s Nick Herrero was the top Southern Nevada golfer at 82, good for seventh place.

Zarek Phillips shot 86 to lead Needles.

The final round is set for 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

Sky Pointe's Drake Harvey is a member of the Nevada Preps All-Southern Nevada boys golf team.
