Faith Lutheran’s Kato wins USGA Junior Amateur Qualifier

Faith Lutheran junior boys golfer Yuki Kato shot a 4-under-par 68 at Boulder Creek on Tuesday to earn medalist honors at a USGA Junior Amateur Qualifier.

Kato finished the 36-hole event at 10-under 134, three strokes ahead of Wilson Bateman and Palo Verde’s Nick Roman, who tied for second at 137.

Bateman clinched the first alternate spot on the playoff hole, and Roman will be the second alternate.

Arbor View’s Zane Thomas tied for fourth (138), Palo Verde’s Errek McClellan finished seventh (147) and Desert Oasis’ Soungjae Beck took 14th (156).
