GOLF: Pahrump’s Austin Ancell fires 7-under to win Sunset match

Pahrump Valley’s Austin Ancell fired a 7-under-par 65 on Wednesday to win a Sunset League match at Aliante.

The Trojans shot 417 to capture the team title. Western was second at 577.

Mojave’s Marcus Mullins finished second individually at 82, and Western’s Jared Smith was third at 83.

Gorman rolls to Southwest win

At Angel Park, Bishop Gorman had the top five finishers to roll to victory in a Southwest League match.

Mitchell Abbott shot 2-over 73 to lead the Gaels, who shot 380 as a team. Joseph Williams was second at 76, and Ryan Gray, Ryan Rasmussen and Matt Lamb each shot 77 for Gorman.

Morgan Cooper, Devin Heiman and Zachary Blake each shot 78 for Desert Oasis, which was second in the team standings at 462. Sierra Vista was third at 464, and Bonanza was fourth at 535.

Durango’s Reese Vertrees and Clark’s Arpepanya Phonsavanh each shot 79.

Boulder City edges Green Valley

At Boulder Creek, Cade Neilson earned medalist honors with a 1-under 35, and the Eagles took four of the top five spots to earn a 200-238 win over the Gators in a nine-hole match.

Boulder City’s Jackson Wright and Green Valley’s Ty Klabacka tied for second place at 1-over 37.

Kyler Atkinson shot a 2-over 38 to take fourth for the Eagles.
