GOLF: Trent helps Panthers take lead at Pahrump Valley Invitational

Jack Trent carded a 6-under-par 66 at Mountain Falls on Thursday to help Palo Verde’s boys golf team grab the lead at the midway point of the Pahrump Valley Invitational.

The Panthers shot 294 to lead an 18-team field. Bellarmine College Prep (Calif.) is second at 298, followed by Bishop Gorman at 304 and Arbor View at 314.

Gorman’s Owen Rosebeck shot 71 to sit in second place. Five golfers are tied for third at 73.

The final round is Friday.

Coronado downs Faith Lutheran

At Canyon Gate, Ethan Bozner shot 3-under 33 to lead Coronado to a 185-192 win over Faith Lutheran.

Dylan Fritz added a 37 for the Cougars.

Andrew Boka, Mitch Conley and Charlie Magruder each shot 37 for the Crusaders.

Chaparral nips Vikings

At Las Vegas National, Brian Brooks shot 13-over 49 to grab medalist honors and lead Chaparral to a 287-300 win over Valley.

Danny Hubley added a 56 for the Cowboys.

Franz Augustin led the Vikings with a 50, and teammate Michael Frias shot 52.
