Panthers’ Jack Trent grabs 36-hole lead at Champions Invitational

Palo Verde senior Jack Trent shot a 4-under-par 68 in his second round Friday to claim the 36-hole lead at the Champions Invitational at The Golf Club at Terra Lago in Indio, California.

Trent shot 69 in his opening round Friday and is at 7-under 137 to lead a field of 264 golfers. Great Oak (California) senior Ryan McCoy shot 66 in his second round to sit one stroke behind Trent at 138. Noah Woolsey of Amador Valley (California) and Eddy Lai of Bellarmine Prep (California) are tied for third at 140.

The Panthers are second in the team standings with a two-round total of 597. Servite (California) leads the 49-team field at 588. Loyola (California) is third at 598. Amador Valley and Chaminade (California) are tied for fourth at 599.

Coronado is tied for 15th at 620. Bishop Gorman is tied for 20th at 624, and Arbor View is 47th at 701.

Gorman’s Mitchell Abbott (76-70–146) is tied for 11th individually. Coronado’s Ben Sawaia (73-74–147) is 14th.

The final round begins at 7:30 a.m. Saturday.
