2017 Bishop Gorman Girls Golf Capsule

BISHOP GORMAN

League: Class 4A Southwest

Head coach: Jim Stanfill, sixth season

Returning letter winners: Five

Top golfers: Hunter Pate (Sr.), Talya Somers (So.), Soan Pyatt (So.), Sidney Stevers (Fr.), Gianna Marretti (Fr.)

Outlook: Pate, who was the runner-up in the Sunset Region tournament and finished fourth at the Class 4A state tournament last season, is one of the top golfers in the state.

She’s one of five returnees for the Gaels, who also have some young and talented golfers. Somers (tied for 24th) and Pyatt (29th) also finished in the top 30 at the state tournament.

“Although having lost two letter winners after the 2016 season, there is great optimism in the 2017 roster,” Stanfill said. “Anchored with senior leadership in Hunter Pate, four additional returners who have made significant progress, and two bright new freshmen, the team is looking to return and to compete at the state tournament.”
