3A STATE: Champ Lewis’ 77 leads Boulder City to team title

Boulder City’s Randi Lewis shot a 5-over-par 77 on Tuesday at Ruby View Golf Course in Elko to capture the individual Class 3A state championship and lead the Eagles’ girls golf team to the team title.

The sophomore finished with a two-day 155, and was the only player to shoot in the 70s on consecutive days.

Lewis finished eight strokes ahead of South Tahoe’s Morgan Murphy to help Boulder City claim its second team crown in three years.

“Randi was real confident coming into the tournament,” Eagles coach Regina Quintero said. “She just didn’t try to do too many things like try to out-drive people; she stayed within her game. She seemed real comfortable and played like it was just another round.”

The Eagles claimed the team championship with a 672 total, followed by Elko at 716.

Indiana Mead carded 89 for a 170 total, to add a fifth-place finish for Boulder City.

“Overall, I’m happy with the way they played and how they handled themselves,” Quintero said. “They knew what it was like to be at this tournament and win it, and I think they handled it well.”
