Faith Lutheran and Green Valley take top girls golf honors

Sunset Region champion Faith Lutheran and Sunrise winner Green Valley took the top awards in Southern Nevada Class 4A girls golf honors selected by the coaches.

Faith Lutheran’s Annie Freman and Brianna Becker, and Green Valley’s Alex Kaui and state champion Jenny Hahn were named to the Class 4A All-Southern Nevada team. Canyon Springs’ Almira Wilborn and Bishop Gorman’s Nichole Corpus also were selected.

Sunset Player of the Year went to Freman and Coach of the Year to Faith Lutheran’s Mark Cheney.

Becker and Faith Lutheran teammates Ashley Lacher and Amanda Ryu, Gorman’s Corpus, Arbor View’s Alyssa Ballew and Spring Valley’s Julia Graham also were named to the Sunset team.

Hahn and Kaui shared Sunrise Player of the Year, and Green Valley’s Greg Murphy took Coach of the Year.

Wilborn, Coronado’s Melanie Chambers and Emily Stephens, Las Vegas’ Ashley Manhnieo and Silverado’s Brittany Whatley were named to the Sunrise team.

SOCCER HONORS — Faith Lutheran and Pahrump Valley played a single girls soccer game to determine who would advance to the Class 4A state tournament, but that was enough to have a 4A Southern League all-league team.

Faith Lutheran senior defender Jessica Nelson was named Most Valuable Player, and Faith Lutheran’s Dave Elliott took Coach of the Year.
