Faith Lutheran’s Freman, Palo Verde’s Bauman advance to match play

Faith Lutheran girls golfer Anne Freman shot 3-over 75 in the second round of stroke play Tuesday at the U.S. Girls Junior Amateur in Daly City, Calif., to advance to match play.

Freman improved on her opening-round 77 and posted an 8-over 152 total, tying for 19th in the field of 156 players. The top 64 advanced to match play, which begins Wednesday and ends with a 36-hole final Saturday.

Freman, who will be a high school senior next season, has committed to Santa Clara.

Palo Verde boys golfer Brandon Bauman hung on in the second round of stroke play at the U.S. Junior Amateur in Stratham, N.H., making the cut to advance to match play.

After shooting even-par 72 on Monday to stand tied for eighth, Bauman shot 7-over 79 on Tuesday for a 7-over 151 total to tie for 49th, two strokes under the cutline. The top 64 players will begin match play Wednesday, and the tournament concludes with a 36-hole final Saturday.
