Faith Lutheran girls golfer Anne Freman had to work a little overtime, but still shot her way into the second round of match play at the U.S. Girls Junior Amateur in Daly City, Calif., on Wednesday.
Freman beat Isabella Skinner of Cumming, Ga., on the 20th hole by making birdie on a par-4 to advance to the round of 32. Freman lost the second hole of the match to go 1 down, but made it up on the par-3 third when Skinner bogeyed, and Freman never trailed the rest of the match.
Freman, who will be a senior this year, was 1 up heading to the 17th hole, but bogeyed as Skinner tied it. The two bogeyed 18 to remain tied, then bogeyed 19 as well before Freman’s winning birdie.
Also, Palo Verde boys golfer Brandon Bauman lost in the first round of match play at the U.S. Junior Amateur in Stratham, N.H.
Bauman, who reached match play by finishing among the top 64 after two rounds of stroke play, lost 7 and 6 to Scottie Scheffler of Dallas.
