GIRLS GOLF: Cougars fifth after opening round of Antigua National tourney

Gabby DeNunzio shot a 5-over-par 77 on Friday to help Coronado’s girls golf team grab fifth place after the opening round of the Antigua National Invitational at McCormick Ranch Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Crystal Querol and Victoria Estrada each added a 78, and Kylie Keyer shot 79 for the Cougars, who have a team score of 312 heading into Saturday’s final round.

Host school Hamilton (Ariz.) shot 295 to lead the 16-team field. Millenium (Ariz.) is second at 308, followed by Xavier (Ariz.) at 309 and Archbishop McCarthy (Fla.) at 310.

Sydney Smith shot 77 to lead Faith Lutheran, which sits in 13th place with a score of 382.

The final round is Saturday.
