Roundup: Sami Penor helps Coronado top Palo Verde in season opener.

Sami Penor shared medalist honors with a 2-under-par 34 on the back 9 at Anthem on Thursday to lift Coronado’s girls golf team to a 154-168 win over Palo Verde in the season opener for both teams.

Gabby DeNunzio added a 38, and Victoria Estrada shot 39 for the Cougars, who won the Class 4A state title last season.

Annick Haczkiewicz also shot 34 for the Panthers, who were third in last year’s state tournament.

Gaels top Chargers

At Angel Park, Sidney Stevers and Gianna Marretti each shot a 5-over-par 40 to lead the Bishop Gorman to a 165-173 win over Clark.

Riana Mission was the medalist, shooting a 1-over 36 to lead the Chargers.
