BOYS SOCCER: Sherwood lifts Panthers past Green Valley, into tournament semifinals

Nolan Sherwood scored the tie-breaking goal with 10 minutes left in the match Saturday to lift Palo Verde’s boys soccer team to a 2-1 win over Green Valley in the Southern Nevada Kick-off Classic at Liberty.
Sherwood scored both of the Panthers’ goals.
Austin Quirt netted the Gators’ goal.
Palo Verde advanced to Monday’s semifinals and will face Tech at 10 a.m. Foothill and Legacy will meet in the other semifinal, also at 10 a.m.
Palo Verde 6, Desert Oasis 0 — At Liberty, Sherwood had three goals and two assists to power the Panthers by the Diamondbacks in the Southern Nevada Kick-off Classic.
Presten Manthey, Griffin Mallas and Jaden Ketelsen also scored, and Austin Manthey had two assists for Palo Verde.
Nishesh Yadav made two saves en route to the shutout.
Green Valley 2, Chaparral 0 — At Liberty, Ricardo Nunez had a goal and an assist as the Gators blanked the Cowboys in the Southern Nevada Kick-off Classic.
Maliq Cooper also scored for Green Valley, which got a six-save shutout from Bryant Peralta.
Chaparral 3, Desert Oasis 1 — At Liberty, Servando Robledo scored twice to help the Cowboys defeat the Diamondbacks in the Southern Nevada Kick-off Classic.
Ivan Jaquez had a goal and an assist for Chaparral.
Ivan Biorato scored for Desert Oasis.
Tech 3, Sierra Vista 0 — At Liberty, Jesus Reyes, Joel Velazquez and Francisco Garcia each scored a goal as the Roadrunners downed the Mountain Lions in the Southern Nevada Kick-off Classic.
Tyler Harvey made two saves and earned the shutout for Tech.
Legacy 1, Liberty 1 — At Liberty, Luka Skrinjaric’s goal 10 minutes into the second half allowed the Longhorns to earn a tie with the Patriots in the Southern Nevada Kick-off Classic.
Joey Hollimon netted a first-half goal for Liberty.
Tech 2, Liberty 1 — At Liberty, Reyes and Garcia each scored once to help the Roadrunners nip the Patriots in the Southern Nevada Kick-off Classic.
Eduardo Soriano scored for Liberty.
Legacy 3, Sierra Vista 0 — At Liberty, Jose Ramirez, Daniel Quinones and Daniel Mejia each had a goal as the Longhorns blanked the Mountain Lions in the Southern Nevada Kick-off Classic.
Abraham Acevedo dished out two assists for Legacy.
Juan Orpineda and Anthony Madden combined on the shutout.
Foothill 4, Durango 1 — At Liberty, Jackson Dietrich had three goals and an assist as the Falcons downed the Trailblazers in the Southern Nevada Kick-off Classic.
Robby Cowan also scored for Foothill.
Jorge Lorza scored for Durango.
Foothill 2, Western 0 — At Liberty, Cowan had a goal and an assist as the Falcons blanked the Warriors in the Southern Nevada Kick-off Classic.
Dietrich netted Foothill’s other goal.
Derek Lawson made two saves en route to the shutout.
Arbor View 4, Western 2 — At Liberty, James Drye had two goals and an assist as the Aggies topped the Warriors.
Alfredo Carrera and Tyler Wallace also scored for Arbor View.
Martin Vasquez scored for Western, which also benefited from an own goal.
Durango 3, Arbor View 1 — At Liberty, Jovany Vasquez scored twice in the second half to propel the Trailblazers past the Aggies in the Southern Nevada Kick-off Classic.
Durango’s Lorza and Arbor View’s Christian Limon each scored a first-half goal.
Faith Lutheran 1, Reed 1 — At Reno, Carter Bishop’s second-half goal allowed the Crusaders to tie the Raiders in the Howell Memorial Tournament.
Bishop Gorman 1, Faith Lutheran 0 — At Reno, the Gaels took advantage of a first-half penalty kick goal to edge the Crusaders in the Howell Memorial Tournament.
