On Aug. 17, new seasons will start for high school sports teams in nine fall sports across the state. The recent realignment process has made some changes to the leagues.
“We have to do drills outside. We have to do team stuff outside,” Shadow Ridge coach Travis Foster said. “You can’t find a hallway in the building and play football.”

Bishop Gorman defeated Eldorado 2-1 to win the Class 5A boys soccer state title Saturday at Coronado. Also, Faith Lutheran held on to win the 4A championship.
Coronado and Faith Lutheran were victorious in their Class 5A girls soccer state semifinals Friday to advance to the state title game at noon Saturday.
The times, dates and opponents for all of this weekend’s high school playoff action in football, soccer and volleyball. Some state champions will be crowned Saturday.
Bishop Gorman soccer player Nick Lazarski scored four goals last week, including two game-winners, as the Gaels won the 5A southern region title.

Eldorado and Bishop Gorman will play for the Class 5A Southern Region title in boys soccer, and Arbor View advanced to the Class 4A girls volleyball state semifinals.
Bishop Gorman’s Nick Lazarski already had scored a first-half goal when he found himself with the ball with 10 minutes remaining in a 1-1 double-overtime game Tuesday.
