Resurgent Meadows in boys soccer playoffs

With The Meadows’ boys soccer team coming off a 4-12 season, its chances of reaching the Class 3A Southern League postseason looked murky at best.

But thanks to sophomore strikers Alex Karabachev (17 goals) and Toby Warburton (11), the Mustangs have made a quick ascension.

The Meadows is in the postseason for the first time under fourth-year coach Garry Shackley. The fourth-seeded Mustangs (7-7, 6-6) will face No. 1 seed Faith Lutheran (13-0-1, 11-0-1) at 6 p.m. Friday at the Mesquite Sports Complex.

“We’ve come a long way from being the whipping boy in the division to being able to give anyone a game,” Shackley said.

In the other 3A Southern matchup, second-seeded Boulder City (7-5-2, 7-3-2) will play third-seeded White Pine (9-5-3, 7-3-2) at 4 p.m. Friday.

The semifinal winners, who clinch trips to state, will meet at 9 a.m. Saturday in the league title game.
