ROUNDUP: Gorman boys shock national power, advance to title match

Blake Balelo and Rian McEvoy each had a goal and an assist Friday to help Bishop Gorman’s boys soccer team stun nationally-ranked Denver East (Colo.) in a semifinal match of the Gateway City Soccer Classic in St. Louis.
Balelo scored in the first-half, and McEvoy added a second-half goal for the Gaels.
Thomas Olsen and Austin Mack combined for the shutout.
The Gaels advance to a bracket championship match against Christian Brothers College (Mo.) at 2:45 p.m. Saturday. The match can been seen live by logging onto www.prepcasts.com.
Denver East began the week ranked No. 6 in the country by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
Tech 5, Las Vegas 1 — At Las Vegas High, Salvador Garcia and Julio Vargas each scored twice as the Roadrunners downed the Wildcats.
Derian Salcido also scored for Tech in a match that was scoreless at halftime.
Danny Nunez tallied Las Vegas’ goal.
