Roundup: Hudson Huckfeldt’s save propels Palo Verde

Palo Verde’s Hudson Huckfeldt stopped the sixth penalty kick of the shootout as the Panthers edged Tech 6-5 on penalty kicks Saturday in the semifinals of the Southern Nevada Kick-off Classic at Green Valley.

The teams played scoreless 80 minutes, and both made their first five penalty kicks. Palo Verde’s sixth kicker also converted, and Huckfeldt’s save allowed the Panthers to advance.

They will play Durango in the championship game at 6:30 p.m. on Monday at Green Valley.

Huckfeldt made seven saves during regulation. Yobani Garcia-Benitez was in goal for the Roadrunners. He made five saves.

Durango 1, Bonanza 1 — At Green Valley, the Trailblazers and Bengals were tied at the end of regulation, but Durango advanced on penalty kicks, 3-2.

Bonanza’s Jonas Bryant scored a second-half goal to tie the score.

Tyson Tesfamariam scored in the first half for the Trailblazers.

Palo Verde 1, Cimarron-Memorial 0 — At Green Valley, Huckfeldt made six saves as the Panthers edged the Spartans.

Bryan Montoya scored a minute before halftime for the game’s lone goal.

Durango 2, Clark 0 — At Green Valley, Jason Sotelo made seven saves to record the shutout as the Trailblazers beat the Chargers.

Tesfamariam and Marcos Delgado each scored a goal for Durango.

Bonanza 1, Desert Pines 0 — At Green Valley, Carlos Munoz scored an unassisted goal with three minutes to play to give the Bengals the win over the Jaguars at the Southern Nevada Kick-off Classic.

Alejandro Tabardillo got the shutout.

Tech 2, Sunrise Mountain 1 — At Green Valley, Gabriel Aguilar and Aaron Castro each had a goal as the Roadrunners edged the Miners in the Southern Nevada Kick-off Classic.

Angel Arreola scored for Sunrise Mountain.

Cimarron-Memorial 3, Clark 1 — At Green Valley, Jimi Villasenor broke a 1-1 tie with a goal in the 60th minute to give the Spartans a victory over the Chargers in the Southern Nevada Kick-off Classic.

Fernando Arevalo and George Balcazar also scored for the Spartans.

Juan Beltran scored Clark’s goal.

Chaparral 1, Equipo Academy 1 — At Tech, Roberto Santana had six saves for the Yeti to preserve a draw with the Cowboys in the Southern Nevada Kick-off Classic.

Edward Diaz scored for Equipo Academy.

Bryan Macias scored Chaparral’s goal.

Liberty 1, Western 1 — At Green Valley, Ivan Rodriguez made a save with three minutes to go to preserve the Patriots’ draw against the Warriors in the Southern Nevada Kick-off Classic.

Ethan Safier scored for the Patriots.

Brayan Gonzalez scored Western’s goal.

Palo Verde 1, Desert Pines 0 — At Green Valley, Luis Flores scored the match’s only goal in the Panthers’ win over the Jaguars in the Southern Nevada Kick-off Classic.

Huckfeldt made two saves in the shutout for Palo Verde.

Sierra Vista 2, Spring Creek 0 — At Tech, Eduardo Perez and Juan Ponce each scored to help the Mountain Lions top the Spartans in the Southern Nevada Kick-off Classic.

Chance Witt notched the shutout for Sierra Vista with one save.

Sunrise Mountain 3, Foothill 0 — At Tech, three Miners scored in their victory over the Falcons.

Arreola, Eric Guillen-Parente and Rodrigo Mayorga each had a goal for Sunrise Mountain.

Cristian Morales and Enrique Perez split the shutout for the Miners.

Bonanza 4, Green Valley 1 — At Green Valley, Efrain Mayorga scored twice to lead the Bengals over the Gators in the Southern Nevada Kick-off Classic.

Martin Rodriguez-Gutierrez had a goal and an assist for the Bengals, and Luis Antonio had a goal.

Kai Zurflueh scored Green Valley’s goal.

Durango 3, Arbor View 0 — At Green Valley, Sotelo notched nine saves in the Trailblazers’ shutout of the Aggies.

Tesfamariam, Marcos Delgado and David Villa-Tovar each scored once for Durango.

Tech 5, Legacy 0 — At Tech, Aaron Ulloa-Tapia had two goals and an assist to lead the Roadrunners over the Longhorns in the Southern Nevada Kick-off Classic.

Alex Meija had a goal and an assist for Tech, and Alan Lopez and Eduardo Gomez each scored once.

Garcia-Benitez recorded the shutout.

Centennial 5, Pahrump Valley 0 — At Green Valley, Armando Gutierrez and Jordan Kennedy each had two goals and an assist for the Bulldogs in their win over the Trojans.

Michael Henry also scored for Centennial.

Silverado 10, Somerset-Losee 0 — At Green Valley, David Matias-Flores had four goals and two assists as the Skyhawks routed the Lions in the Southern Nevada Kick-off Classic.

Conner Barlow had three goals for the Skyhawks, and Isaac Allen had four assists. Teammate Ethan Foley had a goal and two assists.

Chris Shehadah and Adreas Amirkhanian also scored for Silverado.

Show Low (Ariz.) 4, Basic 0 — At Green Valley, the Wolves fell to the Cougars in the Southern Nevada Kick-off Classic.

Bishop Gorman 8, Douglas 0 — At South Lake Tahoe, California, Hayden Madsen scored twice as the Gaels routed the Tigers in the South Tahoe Invitational.

Caden Buckley and Brophy Howard each added a goal and an assist for Gorman, which scored six second-half goals.

James Brooks, Matthew Markham, Daniel Mazzeo and Hiram Triana each added a goal for the Gaels.

Kauila Hoapili was credited with the shutout.
