Soccer playoff pairings nearly set

With just one day remaining in the Class 4A girls soccer regular season, most of the playoff picture is already in focus.

The top four seeds and their order are already set in the Northwest, Northeast and Southeast Leagues.

The Southwest League’s top and No. 4 seed have been determined, but the outcome of Friday’s Sierra Vista-Bonanza match will finish the slate.

Let’s start with the Sunrise Region, where the pairings for the quarterfinals are unofficially set. The pairings are expected to be made official by the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association this weekend.

The Northeast League seeds, in order, are: Rancho, Las Vegas, Eldorado and Valley. Valley could still tie Eldorado for third place, but the Sundevils would win the tiebreaker because they went 1-0-1 against Valley this season.

The Southeast League seeds, in order, are: Coronado, Green Valley, Silverado and Basic.

Pairings for the quarterfinal round on Tuesday at Bettye Wilson Park would be: Basic vs. Rancho; Silverado vs. Las Vegas; Eldorado vs. Green Valley; and Valley vs. Coronado.

In the Sunset Region, the one gray area is in the Southwest League where second-place Durango leads third-place Sierra Vista by a point. Durango has completed its season, but Sierra Vista hosts Bonanza on Friday.

If the Mountain Lions beat Bonanza, Sierra Vista will be the No. 2 seed and Durango No. 3.

If Bonanza wins, Durango is the No. 2 seed and Sierra Vista No. 3.

If Bonanza and Sierra Vista tie, Durango and the Mountain Lions would both have 28 points. The Trailblazers and Sierra Vista split their season series, but Sierra Vista wins the tiebreaker on beaten opponents points.

No matter what happens in the Bonanza match, Bishop Gorman is the No. 1 seed and Bonanza No. 4.

In the Northwest League, Centennial secured the No. 1 seed, followed by Shadow Ridge, Arbor View and Palo Verde.

The quarterfinal matchups on Tuesday at Bettye Wilson Park would be: Bonanza vs. Centennial; the Southwest No. 3 seed vs. Shadow Ridge; Arbor View vs. the Southwest No. 2 seed; and Palo Verde vs. Gorman.

Once the NIAA confirms the playoff matchups, they’ll be posted on nevadapreps.com.
