Some of the top high school boys soccer teams — such as Class 5A state champion Bishop Gorman, Eldorado and Palo Verde — are replacing key contributors from last season.
Coronado has 11 seniors who helped the Cougars reach the 5A state title game the last two seasons, but coach Dana Neel expects a “battle” in the Southern League.
On Aug. 17, new seasons will start for high school sports teams in nine fall sports across the state. The recent realignment process has made some changes to the leagues.
“We have to do drills outside. We have to do team stuff outside,” Shadow Ridge coach Travis Foster said. “You can’t find a hallway in the building and play football.”

Faith Lutheran goalie Elke Travis had two shutouts during last week’s 5A girls soccer state tournament. She recorded eight saves in the Crusaders’ 1-0 win in the state title game.
