RECRUITING: Bishop Gorman’s Greg Francis staying home, chooses UNLV

Bishop Gorman senior free safety Greg Francis made an oral commitment to UNLV for football on Wednesday night, announcing his decision on Twitter.

Francis’ commitment is nonbinding, and the first day he can sign a letter of intent is Feb. 1. UNLV’s coaches cannot comment until that time.

Francis is the third local athlete to commit to the Rebels, joining linebacker Farrell Hester of Gorman and Desert Pines quarterback Marckell Grayson.

The 6-foot-2-inch, 190-pound Francis was fourth on the Gaels in tackles with 43 and added two interceptions. He was a second-team All-Southwest League selection as a senior.

Francis made an official visit to UNLV last weekend. He chose the Rebels over reported scholarship offers from Adams State (Colorado), Idaho, Navy, Northern Arizona and Weber State.
