RECRUITING: Desert Pines football player Antonio Wallace selects Arizona

Desert Pines senior Antonio Wallace made an oral commitment to Arizona for football on Saturday, announcing his decision on Twitter.

Wallace’s commitment is nonbinding, and the first day he can sign a letter of intent is Feb. 1. Arizona’s coaches cannot comment until that time.

Wallace is the third player from Desert Pines to commit to Arizona, joining offensive lineman Edgar Burrola and linebacker Tony Fields II.

The 6-foot, 170-pound Wallace is listed as an athlete by most internet recruiting services but is expected to play defensive back at Arizona.

Wallace had two interceptions, both of which he returned for touchdowns, and added 16 receptions for 265 yards and three scores to help Desert Pines (12-1) capture the Class 3A state title this past season.

Wallace, who sat out his junior season after transferring from Spring Valley, was offered a scholarship by Arizona on Thursday. He also had reported scholarship offers from Brigham Young, Colorado, Hawaii and UNLV.
