RECRUITING: Liberty defensive back Allan Mwata makes early pledge to BYU

Liberty junior defensive back Allan Mwata made an oral commitment to Brigham Young on Saturday.

Mwata’s commitment is nonbinding, and the first day he can sign a letter of intent is Feb. 7. BYU’s coaches cannot comment until that time.

Mwata first committed during BYU’s Fanfest event that took place Saturday in Las Vegas, according to the Deseret News, and later announced his decision on Twitter.

Mwata (5-foot-11-inches, 180 pounds) was first-team all-Southeast League and honorable mention all-state as a junior. He had 46 tackles and three interceptions to help the Patriots win the Sunrise Region title and advance to the Class 4A state final.

Mwata also had an early scholarship offer from Florida Atlantic.
