RECRUITING: Signing period starts slowly for locals

The regular signing period for basketball began Wednesday and ends May 20. Locally, the period has started slowly.

Bishop Gorman girls wing Yahindra Edwards committed to Alabama State after an official visit Saturday.

Silverado boys forward Wade Collie recently committed to Air Force’s prep school over offers from Colorado State and Texas Southern.

Collie said he is still in the lengthy application process to Air Force but that his mind has been made up “for a pretty good while.”

Boys players who have committed to junior colleges include Liberty guard Cameron Peters (Imperial Valley College, Calif.), Silverado guard Ali Sabra (Yavapai College, Ariz.), Desert Pines guard Reggie Shaw (Snow College, Utah) and Palo Verde guard D.J. Stennis (College of Southern Idaho).

Updates on uncommitted seniors:

— Eldorado guard Mitrell Clark said he is scheduling a visit to Loyola Marymount. He has offers from LMU, Montana State, Seattle and Denver.

— Cheyenne guard Demetric Williams recently has drawn interest from Iowa, Southern Methodist, Wichita State and Virginia Commonwealth, Desert Shields coach Teral Fair said.

COMMITMENT — Spring Valley senior first baseman/outfielder Jasmine Wilson recently committed to play softball at Mississippi Valley State.
