RECRUITING: Texas Tech coach Knight in area scouting

Texas Tech men’s basketball coach Pat Knight attended Friday’s Spring Mountain-Lake Mead boys basketball game in the gold bracket of the ninth annual Lake Mead Holiday Classic.

Per NCAA rules, Knight could not comment on specific players, but confirmed he was scouting in the area. He watched the game with members of his staff and left afterward.

“There are a lot of good players in Las Vegas,” Knight said.

Lake Mead coach Jeff Newton said Knight is interested in Eagles junior guard De’Quan Thompson, who has already given an oral commitment to Division II Dixie State but would be free to sign elsewhere as a senior.

Thompson scored a game-high 19 points in Lake Mead’s 70-37 win, including an and-one tomahawk dunk and three-point play that gave his team a 28-5 lead in the final six minutes of the first half.
