O’Connor, Lynx blank Mountain View

McClain O'Connor threw three touchdown passes and ran for another score Saturday afternoon as Lincoln County's football team routed host Mountain View 29-0 in a Division III Southern League matchup.

O'Connor, the league's reigning Offensive Player of the Year, was 12 of 20 for 119 yards passing and had 53 yards rushing on 10 carries. He also had an interception on defense midway through the fourth quarter.

After Mountain View lost a fumble on the game's opening possession, O'Connor connected with Cody Thornock on a 5-yard touchdown reception with 10 minutes, 8 seconds left in the quarter to give the Lynx a 6-0 lead.

Lincoln County (1-0, 1-0 Southern) didn't stop there, as it went on to recover three fumbles and intercept a pass in the shutout.

The Lynx defense, which only gave up 125 yards, recorded a safety as time expired in the first quarter, when a snap sailed over Mountain View (0-2, 0-1) quarterback Tyrell Brooks, to extend the lead to 8-0.

Lincoln County took a 15-0 lead into halftime after O'Connor scored on a 9-yard quarterback keeper with 6:13 left in the second quarter.

In the second half, O'Connor linked up with Mike Wood on a 13-yard TD pass and Zach Florence on a 8-yard pass for the final score.

Wood finished with 56 yards receiving, and senior running back Will Culverwell added 142 yards on the ground for Lincoln County.

Mountain View's Bernard Williams had 11 carries for 53 yards, and teammate Terrence Brooks had two receptions for 65 yards.
