1A STATE: Winning pitcher Bryl uses bat, leads Thunderbirds to title game

Winning pitcher Brandi Bryl went 3-for-4 with four RBIs to help Indian Springs’ softball team beat Carlin 12-5 on Friday and advance to the championship game of the Class 1A state softball tournament at Bishop Manogue.

Kyli Lopez was 3-for-4 with two RBIs for the Thunderbirds, who erupted for a nine-run fifth that turned a 4-2 deficit into an 11-4 lead.

Baylee McCormick, Heather Thormahlen, Alexxa Reinke and Tessa Lounsbury each belted a double for Indian Springs (24-1).

Kayla Anthony notched a triple and a solo home run for Carlin.

Indian Springs will play Tonopah (10-11) at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at UNR’s Hixson Park.

Tonopah 10, Carlin 8 — At Bishop Manogue, Alli Friel belted a home run, and the Muckers rallied with two runs in the top of the ninth to nip the Railroaders in the losers' bracket final.

Winning pitcher Elaina Dunn had three hits, including a double, for Tonopah, and Deanna VanPoucke smacked a triple.

Melinda Harris had a double for Carlin.

Tonopah 20, Eureka 8 — At Bishop Manogue, Dunn had two doubles and pitched two innings of relief to help the Muckers rout the Vandals in an elimination game.

VanPoucke blasted a homer for Tonopah, which pounded out 17 hits.
