3A STATE: Lowry edges Boulder City

Hana Etcheverry belted a solo home run as part of a four-run fourth inning, and Lowry’s softball team held on for a 5-4 victory over Boulder City in the opening round of the Class 3A state tournament Thursday at Damonte Ranch in Reno.
The Buckaroos (19-11) scored four times in the top of the fourth to take a 5-1 lead. Lowry advanced to play Churchill County (27-6) at 11 a.m. Friday at UNR.
Karlee Koopman went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for Boulder City (29-4), which will play Fernley (21-12-2) in an elimination game at 9 a.m. Friday at UNR.
Taylor McKeever was 2-for-4 with a double, and Ali Rants tripled for the Eagles, who scored two runs in the fifth to cut the deficit to 5-4.
Koopman pitched a complete game with six strikeouts.
Churchill County 7, Fernley 6 — At Damonte Ranch, the Greenwave downed the Vaqueros.
