I-A SOFTBALL: Bramlage, Bulldogs edge Desert Shields

Winning pitcher Becca Bramlage hit an inside-the-park grand slam in the fifth inning Tuesday to help Virgin Valley’s softball team edge host Cheyenne, 8-7 in the opening round of the Division I-A Southern Region softball tournament.

The Desert Shields took a 4-2 lead into the fifth inning, but Bramlage’s homer sparked a five-run inning.

Janella Fiso was 2-for-4 with a double for the Bulldogs (11-19), who will visit Boulder City (23-5) at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Courtney Gain had an inside-the-park homer, and Alyssa Fata was 2-for-3 with an RBI for Cheyenne (20-16-1), which will host Mojave in an elimination game at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Boulder City 14, Mojave 4 — At Boulder City, Megan Morton was 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs, and the Eagles had 23 hits, including nine for extra bases, in a six-inning win over the Eagles.

Charlene Masterson was 2-for-4 with a double, a homer and three RBIs, and Jessica Embro went 4-for-4 with a double and an RBI for Boulder City.

Mikaela Brown went 3-for-4 with two doubles, Kaila Davis was 2-for-3 with a homer and two RBIs, and Nichole Schulz was 2-for-4 with a double for the Eagles.

Dannette Daguiar was 3-for-3 with a solo homer for Mojave.

Pahrump Valley 12, Moapa Valley 6 — At Overton, winning pitcher Whitney Roderick was 3-for-5 with a double to help the Trojans (20-13) down the Pirates (13-10-1).

Lahela Kaiwi was 3-for-5 with a home run, and Kristal Kaiwi went 2-for-4 with a double. Jordan Egan added three hits for Pahrump, which will visit Faith Lutheran (20-12) at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Bailey Owens was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, and Cymoni Cooper had two hits and an RBI for Moapa Valley, which will host Tech (13-8) in an elimination game at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Faith Lutheran 15, Tech 1 — At Faith Lutheran, Alex Wright went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double and three RBIs, and Mosie Foley was 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs as the Crusaders routed the Roadrunners in five innings.

Vanessa Valdez was 3-for-3 with three runs for Faith Lutheran.
