Roundup: Ashley Ward lifts Coronado in Arizona tournament

Ashley Ward went 4-for-4 with two doubles, a triple and two RBIs to lead Coronado’s softball team to a 12-5 win over Torrance (California) at the Tournament of Champions in Bullhead City, Arizona.

Tatum Spanger went 2-for-3 with a solo homer and three RBIs, Veronica Jarchow was 3-for-3 with a double, and Tori Jones hit a solo homer for the Cougars.

Ward allowed five runs — three earned — over five innings to pick up the win.

Los Alamitos (Calif.) 2, Coronado 0 — At Bullhead City, Ariz., Tatum Spangler allowed two runs and struck out eight over six innings in a loss to the Griffins, who are the top-ranked high school team in the nation by USA Today.

Saugus (Calif.) 5, Shadow Ridge 1 — At Fountain Valley, Calif., Raelyn Kendall doubled in the Mustangs loss to the Centurions.

O’Connor (Ariz.) 5, Basic 4 — At Bullhead City, Arizona, Grace Lyons and Rylee Holtorf hit back-to-back homers in the bottom of the seventh to give the Eagles the win over the Wolves.

Lyons was 4-for-4 with two homers, a double and two RBIs.

Mikayla Berg’s three-run homer in the top of the seventh gave Basic a 4-3 lead. Shelby Basso was 2-for-4 with a solo homer for the Wolves.

Shadow Ridge 3, Los Lunas (N.M.) 2 — At Fountain Valley, Calif., Shea Clements and Alisha Schultz each homered in the fifth inning to rally the Mustangs past the Tigers.

Clements hit a two-run shot that tied the game before Schultz’s game-winning solo homer.

Mia Voges struck out four over the final three innings to pick up the win for the Mustangs.

Basic 6, Torrance (Calif.) 5 - At Bullhead City, Arizona, Basso went 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI as the Wolves edged the Tartars.

Hannah Barr added a double and two RBIs, and Jordyn Ebert homered for Basic.

Orange Lutheran (Calif.) 7, Centennial 0 — At Bullhead City, Arizona, the Lancers scored five runs in the first two innings and rolled to the five-inning win over the Bulldogs.

Centennial 5, Aztec (N.M.) 3 — At Bullhead City, Arizona, Amanda Sink threw a three-hitter with 11 strikeouts to lead the Bulldogs to the five-inning win.

Jacquelin Perez-Mena, Kiana Tate and Seanna Simpson each had two hits for Centennial.

Palo Verde 6, Verrado (Ariz.) 0 - At Bullhead City, Arizona, Kendall Hopkins threw a one-hitter as the Panthers topped the Vipers in six innings.

Hopkins struck out eight.

Grace Chavez had two hits and three RBIs for Palo Verde. Makall Whetten and Makena Martin each added two hits for the Panthers.

Pacifica (Calif.) 2, Palo Verde 0 — At Bullhead City, Arizona, Alyssa Brito knocked in two runs in the bottom of the sixth to break a scoreless tie as the Mariners edged the Panthers.

Taylor Askland threw a five-hitter with four strikeouts for Palo Verde. Lauryn Barker had two of the three hits for the Panthers.

Taylorsville (Utah) 4, Foothill 0 — At Bullhead City, Arizona, Reagan Walk threw a four-hitter as the Warriors shut out the Falcons.

El Modena 11 (Calif.), Foothill 6 - At Bullhead City, Arizona, the Vanguards scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth to defeat the Falcons.

Morgan Matsumoto doubled for Foothill.

Colorado River Invitational

Desert Oasis 12, White Pine 2 — At Bullhead City, Ariz., Jazmyne Compehos homered and Maggie Shepard doubled to lead the Diamondbacks past the Bobcats in the Colorado River Invitational.

Alexus Marquez picked up the win, allowing two runs over two innings.

Silverado 21, Chino Valley (Ariz.) 4 — At Needles, California, Megan Johnson went 3-for-3 with two doubles, a home run, three RBIs and four runs as the Skyhawks rolled to the four-inning win over the Cougars.

Megan Thomas was 3-for-3 with a double, three runs and an RBI, and Anna Tucker went 2-for-2 with a double five RBIs for Silverado.

Meleah Rivera was 3-for-4, and Dalyse Whiteside added two hits for the Skyhawks.

Desert Oasis 5, Silverado 3 — At Needles, California, Paisley Garcia fired a one-hitter and Meaghan McInerney homered and drove in three runs to power the Diamondbacks over the Skyhawks in five innings.

Garcia didn’t allow an earned run, and McInerney hit a two-run homer in the second inning.

Izriah Hodson was 2-for-3 with a double and a run, and Alexus Marquez went 2-for-3 with an RBI for Desert Oasis.

Boulder City 7, Durango 6 — At Needles, California, Jera Hinson doubled home Marleena Mills with two outs in the bottom of the fourth to give the Eagles the four-inning win over the Trailblazers.

Ryann Reese went 3-for-3 with a double and two runs to lead Boulder City. Hinson went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run, and Jordan Moorhead was 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI for the Eagles.

Kaitlin Fazendin was 3-for-3 with a home run, four RBIs and two runs to lead Durango. Madisoyn Conriquez went 2-for-3 with two runs for the Trailblazers, who had scored four runs in the top of the fourth to take a 6-4 lead.

Needles 26, Cathedral City (Calif.) 8 - At Needles, California, Jaycee Fragoso was 4-for-5 with two doubles to help the Mustangs roll to the three-inning win.

Preslee Murch was 4-for-5 with a double, and Kandice Summers went 2-for-3 with a triple for Needles, which scored 12 runs in the second inning.

Boulder City 17, Legacy 7 — At Needles, California, Marleena Mills was 3-for-3 with two runs and three RBIs to help the Eagles to the five-inning win over the Longhorns.

Ashley Wishard went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBIs and a run, and teammate Brooke Baker was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run for Boulder City.

Legacy’s Kiani Tung went 2-for-3 with a grand slam and five RBIs, and teammate Kaleah Alapati was 3-for-3 with a double and three runs.

Durango 12, Cathedral City (Calif.) 0 — At Needles, California, the Trailblazers conquered the Lions.

Legacy 6, Yuma (Ariz.) 3 — At Needles, California, Tung doubled to help the Longhorns defeat the Criminals.

Lady Devils Tournament

Western 16, Canyon Springs 3 — At Eldorado, Alexis Cho threw a four-hitter to help the Warriors to the five-inning win over the Pioneers in the Lady Devils Tournament.

Cho also doubled for Western.

Del Sol 21, Tech 6 — At Del Sol, Selena Erickson was 3-for-4 with four RBIs to help power the Dragons past the Roadrunners in three innings.

Noa Bowie went 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs for Del Sol, which led 12-3 after the first inning. Jazmine Rivera earned the win for the Dragons.

Monique Venditto finished 2-for-2 with a double and four RBIs to lead Tech.

Canyon Springs 24, Clark 9 — At Eldorado, the Pioneers snapped a 55-game losing streak by beating the Chargers in three innings.

The Pioneers, who last won on March 17, 2015, managed just three hits in the game, but a 13-run first inning put it out of reach.

Western 19, Clark 4 — At Eldorado, Alexis Cho had a double and a home run to power the Warriors to the three-inning win over the Chargers.

Cho also went the distance, allowing five hits, to get the win.

Edna Madrid-Silve added a double and a triple for Western.

Battle of the Bats

Las Vegas 22, Spring Valley 3 — At Las Vegas, Angleina Visitacion and Sarina Ramirez each had three hits, as the Wildcats roared past the Grizzlies in the Battle of the Bats Tournament.

Melina Fabian supplied two hits for Las Vegas, which scored 12 runs in the second inning.

Camryn Vereen had two hits to pace Spring Valley.

Cimarron-Memorial 14, Rancho 3 — At Rancho, Tiarra Del Rosario went 4-for-4 with a double and an RBI to help the Spartans down the Rams in four innings.

Diona Whitley was 3-for-3 with two RBIs, and teammates Angie Chin and Mya’Liah Bethea each supplied two hits for Cimarron. Kylie Sharapan earned the win for the Spartans.

Arbor View 7, Las Vegas 1 — At Rancho, Torii Forsberg and Makayla Kolojay combined on a three-hitter as the Aggies beat the Wildcats in six innings.

Forsberg allowed a run in five innings to get the win.

Sklyar Gorrell tripled for Las Vegas.

Rancho 17, Valley 1 — At Rancho, Alyssa Ortiz fired a four-inning two-hitter, as the Rams routed the Vikings.

Yvette Sanchez was 3-for-3 with two RBIs for Rancho, which got three RBIs and two hits, including a home run from Liliana Gutierrez. Ayanna Potter supplied two hits and two RBIs, and Kaitlyn Suarez also had two hits for the Rams.

Heather Robinson had an RBI single, and teammate Daphyne Weckwerth contributed a single and a run for Valley.

Las Vegas 14, Valley 0 — At Las Vegas, Visitacion spun a four-inning no-hitter as as the Wildcats blanked the Vikings.

Kaitlyn Horstdaniel, Nicole Forrest and Precious Sandoval each supplied two hits for Las Vegas, which scored 12 runs in the first inning.

March Warm-Up Tournament

Green Valley 15, Alta (Utah) 0 — At St. George, Utah, Katrina Ramos threw a three-inning no-hitter, Savannah Fabro homered and drove in five runs, and the Gators cruised to a victory.

Green Valley 7, Wasatch (Utah) 5 — At St. George, Utah, Cristina De Los Angeles homered, and Abigail Cordova drove in a pair of runs to propel the Gators over the Wasps.

Tooele (Utah) 13, Green Valley 8 — The Gators fell despite a pair of home runs from Cinthia Garcia, and two RBIs from Stephany Ahmed.
