ROUNDUP: Green Valley holds off Durango in softball

Green Valley catcher Annamarie Smith picked off the potential tying run at second base to end the game Friday as the Gators’ softball team held off visiting Durango, 5-4.

The Gators took a 5-2 lead into the seventh, but Durango scored twice in the inning and was one hit away from tying the score. Smith threw out two runners at second in the game for Green Valley.

Carly Smith and Kayla Anderson each had a double for Green Valley.

Nicole Herrera was 4-for-4 with a double for the Trailblazers. Teammate Nicole Schultz was 3-for-4 with double.

Las Vegas 10, Sierra Vista 6 — At Las Vegas, Monique Hernandez struck out 10 over six innings and went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run to lead the Wildcats over the Mountain Lions.

Brianna Guzman went 4-for-4 with one RBI and two runs, and Tiffani Taylor went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs for Las Vegas.

Ashley Krumme went 2-for-4 with an RBI for Sierra Vista.

Legacy 13, Western 0 — At Legacy, Jessie Wilhelm struck out seven and allowed one hit in four innings for the Longhorns in their win over the Warriors.

Wilhelm was 3-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs. Darcey Cochran went 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs.

Desert Oasis 6, Rancho 2 — At Desert Oasis, Emily Heinz was 3-for-4 with a double and two runs in the Diamondbacks’ win over the Rams.

Winning pitcher Morgan Hughes struck out five in four innings.

Palo Verde 10, Coronado 1 — At Palo Verde, Missy McCormick struck out 13 and allowed one unearned run in a two-hitter for the Panthers in their win over the Cougars.

Palo Verde’s Erika Stratton and McCormick both went 2-for-3 with a double.

Centennial 18, Tuba City (Ariz.) 0 — At Winslow, Ariz., Brandy Thaw went 3-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs to lift the Bulldogs to a three-inning win in the Winslow Tournament.

Katie Lee went 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs for Centennial, and teammate Jennifer Watkins tossed a no-hitter to earn the victory.

Centennial 12, Valley Sanders (Ariz.) 0 — At Winslow, Ariz., Kelli Hans went 2-for-2 with a triple to help the Bulldogs pick up their second tournament victory of the day.

Sierra Golia allowed two hits to pick up the four-inning victory.

Campbell Hall (Calif.) 8, Faith Lutheran 3 — At Faith Lutheran, the Crusaders gave up seven runs in the fourth inning and fell in their first-round game of the Las Vegas Christian Invitational.

Lake Oswego (Ore.) 7, Faith Lutheran 2 — At Faith Lutheran, the Crusaders were unable to capitalize on an early 1-0 lead in the Las Vegas Christian Invitational.

Faith Lutheran 13, Bishop Gorman 3 — At Faith Lutheran, Ashley Green went 2-for-3 with a home run to lead the Crusaders past the Gaels.

Britanny Hampton and Kailey McEvilly each went 3-for-4 for Faith Lutheran.

Tonopah 19-27, Round Mountain 0-2 — At Tonopah, Britney Klapper struck out 12, including the last nine batters, in a five-inning no-hitter for the Muckers in their win over the Knights during the first game of a doubleheader.

Klapper picked up the win in both games, allowing one hit total.

Hardley Maughn was 4-for-4 in the first game for Tonopah, tallying a home run and a double.

In the second game, Tonopah’s Kayla Misener was 2-for-2 with a triple and a double.
