ROUNDUP: Hughes’ one-hitter carries Desert Oasis to Sunset playoff spot

Morgan Hughes pitched a five-inning one-hitter and Desert Oasis’ softball team clinched a Sunset Region playoff berth in its debut season with an 11-0 win over visiting Western on Tuesday.

Hughes struck out six and walked one, allowing only an infield single in the first inning as the Diamondbacks improved to 12-20, 10-5 in the Southwest League.

Lenzi Cram doubled and scored twice for Desert Oasis.

Bonanza 12, Pahrump Valley 2 — At Bonanza, Brittany Spencer went 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs to help the Bengals beat the Trojans in six innings.

Emily Osborn, Alex Teed, Aimee Doyle and Nicolette Lind had three hits each for Bonanza.

Becca Gamble and Taylor Ball had two hits each for Pahrump.

Durango 12, Sierra Vista 2 — At Durango, Samantha Juarez hit two home runs and a double, scored three runs and knocked in four to lead the Trailblazers past Sierra Vista.

Jaexie Balilea also homered for Durango, and Katie Moore, Gabby King and Marina Ybarra were each 2-for-3

Ashley Hall pitched a three-hitter and struck out six.

Eldorado 12, Chaparral 2 — At Chaparral, Brittany Young was 2-for-3 with four RBIs, and Mari Madrid and Erica Estrada each supplied a double to help the Sundevils beat the Cowboys in five innings.

Taylor Price scattered three hits to get the win.

Rancho 7, Desert Pines 6 — At Desert Pines, Amber Marlett struck out 11 and the Rams edged the Jaguars.

Jessica Ramirez tripled and Viviana Trujillo doubled for Rancho.

Nicole Lagesse had a triple and Mariah Berrelleza a double for Desert Pines.

Las Vegas 9, Canyon Springs 1 — At Canyon Springs, Nichole Diaz was 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs, sparking the Wildcats past the Pioneers. Las Vegas built a 7-0 lead after three innings.

Valley 10, Moapa Valley 0 — At Valley, Lorena Villamar was 4-for-4 with an RBI and combined with Mickayla Romero on a two-hitter as the Vikings blanked the Pirates in five innings.

Valley’s Nicholette Corona doubled, triple and had an RBI. Nicole Suarez was 2-for-2.

Boulder City 5-20, Faith Lutheran 0-3 — At Faith Lutheran, Karlee Koopman pitched a two-hitter with six strikeouts in the opener as Eagles swept the Crusaders.

Paxton Fleming was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Boulder City in the first game.

In the second game, which lasted only five innings, Fleming and Bridget Ward (four RBIs) had four hits apiece, and Boulder City built a 12-1 lead in the second inning.

Faith Lutheran’s Ashley Green hit a solo home run in the nightcap.

Pahranagat Valley 17-5, Mountain View 7-4 — At Alamo, Mary Higbee went 5-for-9 with a home run, two triples, a double and four RBIs during the Panthers’ sweep of the Saints.

Pahranagat’s Molly Hansen homered in the second game.

Henderson International 12, Calvary Chapel 4 — At Calvary Chapel, Lee Harrison, Alyssa Ayers, Pamela Sakuma and Natasha Chapman each had two hits to lead Henderson International past the Lions.

Danielle Johnson and Chelsea England had two hits each for Calvary Chapel.

Indian Springs 3-12, Tonopah 0-1 — At Tonopah, Brandi Bryl struck out 18 in a three-hit shutout in the first game and hit for the cycle in the second to lead the Thunderbirds to a sweep.

Bryl struck out eight in the second game and was 4-for-4 with five RBIs, including a three-run homer.

Nicole Rodgers was 2-for-3 with a triple for Tonopah in the second game.

Beatty 18-23, Sandy Valley 0-5 — At Beatty, Naomi Cruz struck out five batters in each game and was 3-for-4 with three RBIs to lead the Hornets to a sweep.

Lake Mead 10, Laughlin 0 — At Tuscany Park, Lynzee Freund pitched a two-hitter with seven strikeouts to lead the Eagles to a five-inning shutout of the Cougars. Rene Baker hit a solo home run for Lake Mead.
